I’ve been looking for a pair of casual dark brown suede boots for a long time. I couldn’t find the right build, or when I did, the price was too high. The J.Crew field boots hit the mark, and then some. The suede is a rich, deep, dark chocolate color and feels as though it will be as durable as it is beautiful. The Vibram sole looks similar to leather (i.e., dressy) from the side, but its grippy rubber treads will provide traction in snow or other slippery conditions. The build quality, stitching, etc., are excellent.
A bit about sizing, since most reviewers recommend "sizing up." I support this recommendation, but thought additional context might be helpful. I measure size 11D on the Brannock device, and wear Alden boots on the Barrie last in size 10.5D, Allen Edmonds in size 11D (most lasts), 11.5 or 12D in most running shoes, and 12D in Allbirds. I bought the J.Crew boots in a size 11.5D and the fit is excellent; the boots were very comfortable right out of the box. Again, a half size up from your Brannock measurement will likely work.
These boots are not inexpensive, but they represent an excellent value, especially when on sale. You will regret not buying a pair!
